Desktop Mode (Android 10+, requires external display)

Taskbar seamlessly supports Android 10's built-in desktop mode functionality. Connect your Android 10+ device to an external display and enjoy running apps in resizable windows. Taskbar's user interface is displayed on the external monitor while your existing launcher remains on your phone.

Please note that desktop mode requires a USB-to-HDMI adapter (or a lapdock) and a compatible device with video output support. Some settings also require granting special permission via adb.

To get started, open the Taskbar app and click on "Desktop mode". Follow the instructions to complete the setup process. For more information, click on the (?) icon located in the upper-right corner of the screen.

Freeform Window Mode (Android 7.0+, no external display required)

Taskbar allows you to launch apps in freeform floating windows on devices running Android 7.0+ without requiring root access. However, Android 8.0, 8.1, and 9 devices need to run an adb shell command during initial setup.

To set up your device for launching apps in freeform mode, follow these steps:

1. Enable "Freeform window support" in the Taskbar app
2. Follow the on-screen instructions to configure your device's settings (one-time setup)
3. Clear all recent apps on your device's recent apps page
4. Launch Taskbar and select the desired app to open it in a freeform window

Accessibility Service Disclosure

Taskbar offers an optional accessibility service that can be enabled to perform system button press actions such as back, home, recents, and power, as well as displaying the notification tray.

The accessibility service is solely used for the above-mentioned actions and has no other purpose. Taskbar does not utilize accessibility services for any form of data collection. Moreover, Taskbar lacks the required Internet permission, thus preventing any internet access.
